Lenses

Multi Anti-Reflection Coatings

Multi Anti-Reflection coatings are added to your lenses to reduce the amount of light that reflects off your glasses. This not only makes your vision a lot clearer and brighter but also cosmetically enhances the look of your spectacles, which means people notice your eyes, not your glasses. M.A.R coatings are especially good for night-time driving as this reduces the glare you get from oncoming traffic and computer use as this improves screen clarity by eliminating reflections that can lead to tired eyes. This coating is also inclusive of anti-scratch, to dramatically reduce scratches on your lenses and anti-smudge which makes them harder to get dirty but also easier to clean.

Sight-Test

Mr Fitzsimons will test your eyes by first of all establishing what strength of glasses you may require. He will then examine your eyes for health and carry out any other tests necessary, possibly a retinal photograph and/or visual fields test. A visual fields test measures how well you see out of the corner of your eye.

Repairs and Adjustments

All minor repairs are carried out in the practice such as replacement nose pads and replacement screws etc, which are all free of charge. Repairs such as solders to broken frames will have to be sent to another company to be repaired so may take 2-3 days to complete. Any adjustments are also carried out such as straightening bent or out of shape frames, tightening loose frames and also any other minor adjustments that may be required to ensure a comfortable fit. No appointment is necessary for any of these services.

Ultra Sonic Cleaning

The Ultra Sonic Cleaner is ideal for cleaning in around the lenses and frame where normally you cannot reach. It works using a combination of ultra sonic vibrations and a special cleaner. This takes approximately 15-20 mins to complete. This service is also free of charge.

Advise and Select Lens Type

There are many lenses which we can choose from. Our experienced members of staff will select the lens most appropriate for your prescription and frame choice. We will assess which lenses will look the best cosmetically and also the most lightweight, dependent on your prescription, so your glasses will be a pleasure to wear. We will also advise you on pricing for each lens that may be available to you.

Contact Lens Fitting

You may have contact lenses fitted at the same time as your eye test, just inform the receptionist when booking your appointment. If you decide on contact lenses the procedure is as follows. Mr Fitzsimons will take a detailed look at the lids and the front of your eye (Cornea) using a microscope. He will then take precise measurements of the front of your eye and insert a suitable lens to these measurements and assess the fit of the lens. Assuming the fit of the lens is perfect we will then arrange an appointment to show you how to insert and remove the lenses safely. You will then have a trial of the lenses for 1-2 weeks depending on the lens used. After this period of time you will return for a contact lens check to ensure you are happy with the lenses and no further adjustments are required.

1 Hour Glazing

As we stock most prescriptions and have an on-site glazing lab, we are able to make up glasses in one hour. This does not include bifocals, varifocals, coated lenses or rimless frames.

Retinal Photograph

The Retinal Photograph gives Mr Fitzsimons a more detailed look at the back of your eye. It also means that small changes can be detected by comparing previous images over time.

Aftercare

Any problem big or small is quickly and easily resolved to ensure you get the most out of your new glasses. On some occasions when there has been a big change in your prescription, you may experience some adaptation difficulties. This is normal and may take a few days to disappear. If you are still experiencing difficulties after this time do not hesitate to call back as we may need to re-assess your glasses and adjust your prescription if necessary.
